Kia has announced the availability of Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) in all new RDE diesel and turbo petrol variants. The diesel variants of the Sonet, Seltos, and Carens with iMT technology are priced ex-showroom at Rs 9.95 lakhs, Rs 12.39 lakhs, and Rs 12.65 lakhs, respectively. The iMT had previously been introduced in the petrol variants of the Sonet and Seltos.
According to Kia, iMT editions will account for 20% of Seltos and 33% of Sonet sales in 2022. The current traffic woes in India have pushed buyers toward automatic variants, and the iMT is one such clutchless manual that makes driving in traffic easier.
Kia’s manual transmission diesel models will now be upgraded to 6iMT models, which will now be offered as standard in its refreshed RDE-compliant portfolio. 2023 editions of the Seltos, Sonet, and Carens are available from April 1, 2023.
