The National Center for Seismology reported a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in the Bay of Bengal on Monday.
The earthquake struck at 08:32:55 (IST) at a depth of 10 kilometers, approximately 421 kilometers east of Puri and 434 kilometers east-southeast of Bhubaneswar.
The earthquake-caused tremor was felt in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh around 9:05 a.m., according to the Dhaka Tribune.
According to a Bangladesh Meteorological Department official, the earthquake’s epicenter was in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal, very close to India.
The epicenter was 529 kilometers southwest of Dhaka, 340 kilometers southwest of Cox’s Bazar, and 397 kilometers southwest of Chittagong, according to the official.
