Because to the COVID-19 epidemic, the award ceremonies have been postponed by two years. The best Indian films made in the calendar year 2020 were honored at the 68th National Film Awards, which were held in 2022. Best Feature Film went to Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, while Best Director went to late filmmaker Sachy for Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Aparna Balamurali won the Best Actress award, while Ajay Devgn and Suriya shared the Best Actor honor. The 67th National Film Awards honored the best Indian films of 2019, but they were held in 2021. Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea took first place that year.

The National Film Awards, which were established in 1954, are managed by the Directorate of Film Festivals. While the first-ever Best Feature Film winner was the Marathi film Shyamchi Aai, the most awarded film in National Film Awards history is Lagaan, which garnered eight nominations in 2002. In addition to the national awards, the event recognizes great films in regional languages and bestows the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for lifetime accomplishment on industry icons. Last year’s winner was superstar Rajinikanth.
