On the occasion of the 76th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag at Kartavya Path on Sunday. He then played the national song and gave a booming 21-gun salute using 105-mm Light Field Guns, an indigenous weapon system.
The Indian Army’s highest-ranking regiment, the President’s Bodyguard, escorted the president of India and her Indonesian counterpart, President Prabowo Subianto, who is this year’s Republic Day chief guest.
After a 40-year break, the “traditional buggy,” which the two Presidents arrived in, was revived in 2024.
Three hundred cultural performers will play “Sare Jahan Se Achha” on musical instruments from throughout the nation to herald the march at Kartavya Path.
A billion Indian hearts would be moved by the melody, pulse, and aspirations of this native combination of instruments. Shehnai, Sundari, Nadaswaram, Been, Mashak Been, Ransingha (Rajasthan), flute, Karadi Majalu, Mohuri, Sankha, Tutari, dhol, gong, Nishan, Chang, Tasha, Sambal, Chenda, Idakka, Lezim, Thavil, Gudum Baza, Talam, and Monbah are among the instruments in the ensemble.
The proud recipients of the highest honors for heroism will come next. Ashok Chakra winner Lt Col Jas Ram Singh (Retd) and Param Vir Chakra winners Yogendra Singh Yadav (Honorary Captain) and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar (Retd) are among them.
The Ashok Chakra is given for comparable acts of valor and selflessness that do not include the adversary, and the Param Vir Chakra is given for the most egregious act of bravery and selflessness in the face of the enemy.
At the National War Memorial, located at the famous India Gate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier laid a wreath. A homage to individuals who gave their lives for the sake of others began at this point.
The Prime Minister then went to watch the parade from the saluting dais at Kartavya Path with other dignitaries.
In keeping with the government’s goal to boost “Jan Bhagidari” in occasions of national importance, about 10,000 VIP visitors are invited to see the march. These special guests from different walks of life are the architects of ‘Swarnim Bharat,’ a Defence Ministry release said. They include the best performers in various fields and those who have made the best use of the government schemes.
For the first time ever, a tri-services tableau with the theme “Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat” would demonstrate the spirit of unity and integration among the armed forces. A Joint Operations Room that promotes networking and communication between the three services will be shown in the tableau.
The “Beating Retreat Ceremony,” which takes place annually on January 29 at Vijay Chowk, will mark the end of Republic Day celebrations.
At the sounding of the retreat, the soldiers stopped fighting, put their weapons away, and left the battlefield at dusk, following a centuries-old military custom.
All participating bands will perform only Indian music at the Beating Retreat Ceremony in 2025.
