India made a roaring comeback into the four-match Test series towards England as they wrapped up the second Test at Chennai by 317 runs on the fourth day to level the series 1-1. The victory is a huge shot in the arm for Virat Kohli’s team, who had been decimated in the opening Test by the visitors on the same venue. The triumph was made possible by the all-round genius of local lad Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored a century and picked up eight wickets in the match, and a belligerent ton from the blade of Rohit Sharma in the first innings.
Axar Patel’s five-wicket haul helped India beat England by 317 runs in the second Test on Tuesday at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium to level the four-match series 1-1. Chasing a goal of 482, England had been all out for 164 in the second session of the fourth day of the Test.
Axar dismissed England captain Joe Root early in the second session of the day on 33 off 92 balls to all however end the visitors’ slender chances of saving the Test. Whereas all-rounder Moeen Ali then put up a quickfire 38-run stand with Stuart Broad for the last wicket, he eventually fell to Kuldeep Yadav, who ended England’s second innings with two wickets to his name. Moeen hit three fours and 5 sixes in his 18-ball 43.
