BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said that the Indian group, sans the top players, will visit Sri Lanka in July for a restricted overs two-sided arrangement. Large names, for example, captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma won’t be essential for the visit as they will be occupied with a marquee five-match Test arrangement in England. “We have arranged a white ball arrangement for the senior men’s group during the period of July where they will play T20 Internationals and ODIs in Sri Lanka,” Ganguly told .
Asked how might India isolate the two groups, Ganguly said that it will be an alternate side, which will not have anybody from the outfit that will be in the United Kingdom around then.
“Indeed, it will be a group of white ball subject matter experts. It will be an alternate group,” the previous India chief said, clarifying that the cricket board likewise has the readiness of white ball regulars as a primary concern.
There will be in any event 5 T20 Internationals and might be three ODIs in Sri Lanka.
India’s visit through England will end on September 14 and with the timetable of the rest of IPL yet to be chalked out, the BCCI would need any semblance of Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal to be match prepared.
“The BCCI president is sharp that all our top players are match prepared and since England doesn’t have a white ball leg the period of July can be used well,” a BCCI source told PTI while clarifying the rationale behind the visit.
For the Kohlis and Sharmas, they need not come from UK, which has set up some hard isolate rules.
“Technically, in the month of July there are no official senior India team matches. The Test squad will be playing intra squad games.”
“So there is no harm in India’s white ball experts getting some match time and selectors also get to fix the missing jigsaws in selection puzzle.”
This will allow the group an opportunity to do tests, similar to whether it will be Chahal, Rahul Chahar or Rahul Tewatia for the leg break bowler’s space, if Chetan Sakariya can be attempted as left-arm alternative, regardless of whether Devdutt Padikkal or Shreyas Iyer gets fit to play by at that point.
Not to fail to remember that Prithvi Shaw’s worldwide vocation could get a lift with this white ball competition, with Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan additionally getting an opportunity to have a special interest.
