England had been bowled out for 183 in their first innings against India on Wednesday’s opening day of the first Test at Trent Bridge. Having reached tea at 138 for 4, England lost their remaining six wickets for just 45 runs in the day’s third and final session. Skipper Joe Root made 64 off 108 balls, even as the others failed miserably to stand up to the Indian pace bowling attack. For the visitors, Jasprit Bumrah picked up 4 wickets for 46 runs, Mohammed Shami had 3/28, whereas Shardul Thakur bagged 2/41.
Earlier, it was England who won the toss and opted to bat against India in the first Test on Wednesday. One notable change in the Indian enjoying XI is the omission of spinner R Ashwin, who was benched to shore up the batting. KL Rahul is ready to open with Rohit Sharma whereas pacers Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj changed Ashwin and Ishant Sharma from the last Test match.
