Rishabh Pant picked up his 100th dismissal as wicketkeeper when he caught Temba Bavuma off Mohammed Shami’s bowling on Day 3 of the Boxing Day test in Centurion.
Pant needed 3 dismissals within the Boxing Day test to eclipse his idol, Dhoni. Pant took the catches of Bavuma, Dean Elgar and Wiaan Mulder on the SuperSport Park to acquire the milestone.
Fastest to 100 dismissals for India wicketkeepers
Rishabh Pant – 26 tests
MS Dhoni/ Wriddhiman Saha – 36 tests
Kiran More – 39 tests
Nayan Mongia – 41 tests
Syed Kirmani – 42 tests
Dhoni leads the Indian tally with 294 dismissals ahead of Syed Kirmani (198), Kiran more (130), Nayan Mongia (107) and Wriddhiman Saha (104).
Pant has risen through the ranks, after making his test debut in 2018. He had a dream start to his test career, hitting 100 each in Australia and England in his first year in international cricket. but, he suffered a slump in shape and his wicketkeeping abilties at home came into query.
Pant won back his area in the test side during India’s tour of Australia last year and has been a regular ever since. even as he has shone with the bat, starring within the memorable test series win Down under, his wicketkeeping has improved leaps and bounds.
