The 81st day of Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, which began on February 24, is on Saturday, May 15. While the fighting in the east European country continues to make headlines, Finland and Sweden’s potential NATO membership, and Moscow’s opposition to it, is also making headlines. The Kremlin has warned of ‘consequences’ if Finland or Sweden are admitted to the intergovernmental military alliance.
On the other hand, the United States and NATO have both expressed support for the two Nordic countries joining the 30-member alliance. 28 of these are in Europe, with the remaining two in the United States and Canada.
