According to Ukrainian officials, Russia has deployed multiple missile systems on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, according to media reports.
According to Ukrainska Pravda, Russian forces are using these weapons to fire on the area around Nikopol.
“As for the Zaporizhzhia NPP the situation there is very difficult, and every day it is becoming more so,” Petro Kotin, President of Energoatom (National Atomic Power Generation Company) was quoted by Interfax Ukraine.
“The invaders are deploying their military equipment there in particular, their missile systems, which they are already using to launch attacks on the other side of the Dnipro (River), the area around the city of Nikopol.”
According to Kotin, up to 500 Russian soldiers are still patrolling the perimeter of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The power plant also houses Russian heavy military equipment, weapons, and explosives.
On March 4, Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhia NPP’s territory. They have control over the administrative buildings as well as the station’s entrance.
In mid-March, Russians detonated ammunition near the destroyed training center and power unit No. 1 at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Around 500 Russian military personnel, as well as a large amount of Russian military equipment and explosives, remain at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. As a result, Ukraine cannot fully fulfill the safety guarantees given to its own citizens and the rest of the world, even though it retains control over the work of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
