Indian Presidential Election Results 2022 Updates:
Droupadi Murmu has received 540 votes worth $378,000 and Yashwant Sinha has received 208 votes worth $145,600, according to PC Mody, Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha. MLA votes are now being counted, and the results will be announced at 4 p.m. The voting for India’s 15th President began earlier in the day at Delhi’s Parliament House. The voting took place on July 18 at Parliament House and across all state assemblies, with 99 percent of the 4,796 MPs and MLAs voting. The current President Ram Nath Kovind’s term will end on July 24, and his successor will be sworn in on July 25.
Droupadi Murmu of the NDA is up against Yashwant Sinha of the Opposition.
Murmu appears to be comfortably placed in the race to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, with several reports of Opposition parties including Congress and NCP lawmakers cross-voting in her favor and non-NDA parties like BJD, YSRCP, and Shiv Sena supporting her. If elected, Murmu, 64, will be the first tribal president and the second woman to hold the position after Pratibha Patil.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan celebrates after Droupadi Murmu got a significant lead in the first round.
“Nobody has any doubt in mind. Daughter of a tribal family coming from a very ordinary house in Odisha, Droupadi Murmu will be elected as the President,” Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tells news agency ANI.
