Ranbir Kapoor has returned to the big screen after a four-year absence with Shamshera. The Karan Malhotra-directed film, starring Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, was released today in a big way. Ranbir plays two characters in Shamshera. In the film, set in the pre-Independence era, he plays both the father and the son.
The film’s trailer and other promotional materials had received good traction on social media, creating just the right amount of buzz for the film. It will be interesting to see how the film is received by fans this weekend. Shamshera’s advance bookings are reasonable given that no other major film is opening this weekend.
Many industry insiders believe that the action-adventure drama will have to rely heavily on on-the-spot bookings, which could give it a significant boost.
Good word-of-mouth will be king here, as will the fact that Ranbir is returning to the screen after Sanju. Another group of moviegoers enjoys seeing Sanjay Dutt in villainous roles after seeing him in Agneepath and KGF 2.
