Share Market Highlights: Sensex falls 306 pts, Nifty closes below 16,700

After a volatile trading session on Monday, domestic stock markets closed with losses. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 306 points, or 0.55 percent, to 55,766 while the NSE Nifty 50 index fell 0.53 percent to 16,631. The worst performing Sensex stock was Mahindra & Mahindra, which fell 3.83 percent, followed by Reliance Industries and Maruti Suzuki India. Zomato’s stock price dropped 11%. Tata Steel was the top Sensex gainer, rising 3.1 percent, followed by IndusInd Bank and Asian paints. The Bank Nifty index finished flat with a negative bias, while the India VIX increased 6.19 percent.
