Domestic benchmark indices managed to extend their uptrend to the fifth trading session in a row. After a volatile trading session on Tuesday, the Sensex and Nifty closed with marginal gains.
The S&P BSE Sensex rose 20.86 points, or 0.04 percent, to 58,136, while the NSE Nifty 50 index rose 5.4 points to 17,345 points. The top gainer on the Sensex was IndusInd Bank, which was up 2%, followed by Asian Paints and NTPC. Tech Mahindra was the worst performer, finishing 1.85% lower, followed by HDFC, L&T, and HDFC Bank.
The Bank Nifty outperformed and closed above 38,000, while the India VIX finished 5.95 percent higher at 18.53.
