Kishore Kumar was a legendary producer, actor, and singer in Hindi films. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will live on for decades. On his birthday, we’re going to share some fun facts about him :
Kishore Kumar was born on August 4, 1929, into a Bengali family in Khandwa under the name Abhas Kumar Ganguly (Madhya Pradesh). However, when he entered the film industry, he changed his name from Abhas Kumar to Kishore Kumar.
Kishore Kumar grew up with three brothers and one sister, the elder of whom was late actor Ashok Kumar. Ashok was also a fantastic actor in the Indian film industry.
According to legend, Ashok Kumar forced Kishore to begin acting because the singer had no interest in the stage.
Shikari, Kishore’s first film, was released in 1946. After Shikari, he entered the world of music. Two years later, in 1948, he made his film debut with a song in Dev Anand’s film Ziddi.
Few people are aware of Kishore Kumar’s lack of vocal training, despite his fluency in Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Malayalam, Oriya, and Kannada.
Many people are unaware that Kishore Kumar can sing in both male and female voices. In a few songs, he sang both the male and female parts.
Kishore Kumar inspired the song Paanch Rupaiyya Barah Anna from the film Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, owing Rs 5.75 to the restaurant owner in Indore Christian College.
Many people are unaware that Kishore Kumar had a sign outside his Mumbai home that read ‘Beware of Kishore.’ Another interesting fact about Kumar is that he was once prohibited from singing on the radio. Yes, this is correct; he was asked to perform on the radio, but he declined to sing.
Kishor Kumar was married four times. Ruma Guha, Madhubala, Yogeeta Bali, and Leena Chandavarkar were his wives. He was quite the romantic.
The legendary singer was regarded as a musical genius of his time and received numerous awards throughout his career. He performed for Dilip Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Dev Anand, Shashi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor, and other celebrities.
Kishore Kumar planned to retire and return to his hometown after surviving a heart attack in 1986. In 1987, he had another massive heart attack in Mumbai. On October 13, 1987, he died at the age of 58. His body was returned to Khandwa, where he was born, for cremation.
