The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 ended the choppy session in the green on Friday, after the RBI MPC raised the repo rate for the third time this fiscal.
The BSE Sensex rose 89 points, or 0.2%, to 58,388, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed at 17,398, up 15.50 points, or 0.1%. Index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Ultratech Cement, and Axis Bank contributed the most to the S&P BSE Sensex’s positive performance. Broader markets followed the lead of the equity market.
The S&P BSE MidCap index rose 20 points to 24,479, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index fell 20 points to 27,605. The Bank Nifty index closed at 37,920.60, up 0.4 %.
Throughout the week, the banking index consolidated sideways. According to analysts, the Nifty trend will likely remain sideways to negative as long as it remains below 17500.
