Today, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 rose nearly 1% to reach a five-month high. The BSE Sensex rose 456 points, or 0.8%, to 60571, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed at 18070. Index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), Bajaj Finserv, and Bharti Airtel, among others, contributed the most to the indices’ gains. Equity frontliners outperformed broader markets. The S&P BSE MidCap index rose 0.3% or 87 points to 26,252, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index rose 0.24 percent or 70 points to 29, 894. The volatility index, India VIX, fell 2.6 percent to settle at 2.6 percent.
