Today’s Stock Market News | Sensex, Nifty, and Share Prices HIGHLIGHTS: Domestic equity market benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 closed in the red on Wednesday, ahead of the outcome of the US Fed policy meeting. The BSE Sensex fell 263 points, or 0.4%, to 59,457, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell 98 points, or 0.6%, to 17718. The top Sensex gainers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), ITC, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, M&M, Reliance Industries, and Nestle India. IndusInd Bank, UltraTech Cement, Power Grid Corporation of India, L&T, NTPC, HCL Tech, and Dr Reddy’s, on the other hand, were among the top index laggards.
Sectorally, the Bank Nifty index fell 0.6% to 41,203.45, while the India VIX, or volatility index, rose 2.8% to 19.33 levels. The US Federal Reserve’s two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, which began on Tuesday, concludes today. The committee led by Fed Chair Jerome Powell is expected to announce a 75 basis point increase in interest rates, with many economists not ruling out a 100 basis point increase.
