Today’s Stock Market, Sensex, and Nifty Share Price Highlights: The benchmark equity indices, the Sensex and Nifty, fell for the 3rd consecutive day, falling more than 1.7% on Friday, weighed down by a selloff across all sectors led by banking and financials amid global market weakness.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell 1,020.80 points (1.73%) to 58,098.92, while the Nifty 50 finished at 17,327.35, down 302.45 points (1.72 per cent). Both indices had opened around 0.2% lower earlier in the day, but quickly fell as the trade progressed, with the Sensex reaching an intraday low of 57,981.95 and the Nifty touching 17,291.65.
Power Grid Corporation of India was the Sensex pack’s biggest loser on Friday, falling nearly 8%. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), State Bank of India (SBI), NTPC, Bajaj twins – Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance, HDFC twins – HDFC Bank and Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, Titan Company, and ICICI Bank were the next companies to be listed. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Tata Steel, and ITC, on the other hand, finished in the black.
On Friday, all of the NSE’s sectoral indices finished in the red. Bank Nifty fell 2.67 percent, Nifty Financial Services fell 2.48 percent, Nifty Realty fell 2.96 percent, and Nifty Media fell 3.44 percent.
The S&P BSE MidCap index fell 588.47 points (2.28 percent) to 25,271.41, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index fell 564.59 points (1.92 percent) to 28,812.76. The volatility index, or India VIX, rose 9.44 percent to 20.59 on the NSE.
