Several years after Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya returns with a different kind of family entertainer. This time, the Rajshri Productions boss is not making his cast perform elaborate dance routines, but rather forcing them to climb Mt Everest, the world’s tallest mountain. And, unlike his previous films, his cast does not include Salman Khan, but rather a slew of veteran actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, and Sarika. Parineeti Chopra, the youngest of the group, plays a mountaineering instructor who is preparing to lead this group of “oldies” to the highest peak where they can “turn into ice” in minutes.
The 2-minute, 50-second trailer looks like a breath of fresh air, with so many veterans crammed into one frame, which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself. Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, and Danny Denzongpa are still discussing the idea of summiting Mt Everest, but Danny dies of old age before they can reach a decision.
And now we have this group of three surviving friends who decide to fulfill Danny’s wish by burying his ashes on Mt. Everest. Parineeti joins them to train them for their task, and they eventually make it possible with Neena and Sarika in company. Kishore Kumar’s Yeh Jeevan Hai plays in the background as they finally fulfill their ambition and the trailer concludes.
Uunchai is the 60th film produced by Sooraj Barjatya’s Rajshri Productions and will be released in theaters on November 11. Sunil Gandhi wrote it, and Sooraj Barjatya, Mahaveer Jain, and Natasha Malpani Oswal produced it.
