The FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Trophy Tour officially began today in Bhubaneswar, with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik handing over the trophy to Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey.
“I hope the Hockey Men’s World Cup Trophy Tour will build excitement for the World Cup across India,” the Chief Minister said, wishing the trophy tour a grand success. We will host 16 teams, with matches taking place in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. I am confident that it will be a memorable World Cup for both the teams and the fans.”
Tusharkanti Behera, Minister of Sports and Youth Services, Commissioner-cum-Secretary R. Vineel Krishna, Hockey India Secretary General Bholanath Singh, Hockey India Executive Director RK Srivastava, and officials and hockey players present on this occasion.
The trophy will travel through 13 states and one Union Territory before returning to Odisha on December 25, giving fans and the general public the opportunity to interact with the prestigious trophy before the winning team lifts it.
The trophy will travel through West Bengal, Manipur, Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Chattisgarh over the next 21 days.
When the Hockey Men’s World Cup Trophy returns to Odisha, it will tour all of the districts. The trophy will also make a stop in Sundargarh, which is known as the “Cradle of Hockey.”
The tour will conclude in Rourkela before returning to the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar for the finals will be played on 29 January 2023.
