The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has not lost an election in Gujarat since 1995, has won a resounding mandate, securing the state’s seventh consecutive term.
The BJP has already won a majority in the 182-member assembly and is on track to win over 150 seats, a state record. This surpasses the Congress’ 1985 record of 149 seats under Madhavsinh Solanki.
The Congress will retake power in Himachal Pradesh after gaining a majority in the 68-seat house.
The BJP has won a record mandate, and the new government will be sworn in on December 12, with CM Bhupendra Patel set to return to the helm. So, what are the most important issues that he and his new government must address?
According to noted economist Indira Hirve, “the average daily wage of workers in Gujarat is Rs 295.9 when it is Rs 837.7 in Kerala, Rs 478.6 in Tamil Nadu, Rs 519 in Jammu and Kashmir, Rs 462 in Himachal Pradesh, and even in Bihar it is Rs 328.3 and in Odisha (Orissa) it is Rs 313.8.”
In Himachal Pradesh, after an early scare, the Congress won 40 seats, a comfortable majority, with the BJP at 25. AAP didn’t win a single seat.
