After Avengers: Endgame, Avatar 2 has become the second biggest Hollywood opening in India. Contrary to expectations, the film will not be able to surpass the Box Office success of the Marvel blockbuster, which remains the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country.
The majority of Avatar 2’s revenue is coming from the Southern circuits, particularly the Nizam/Andhra region, where the film is doing exceptionally well. So much so that it has surpassed Brahmastra and Avengers: Endgame as the highest-grossing non-South Indian language film on the circuit.
If Avatar 2 continues to perform well, it will have earned around Rs 190 crore by the end of its first week. This also means that it will only reach the Rs 200 crore mark in its second weekend. Surprisingly, Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus is the big Christmas Day release in India on December 23. If the film receives positive word-of-mouth, it will challenge Avatar 2’s smooth run in at least the Northern circuits.
