Following the death of Naba Das, who held the portfolio since 2019, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assigned the Health and Family Welfare department to Niranjan Pujari on Monday. In addition to the finance portfolio, Pujari will hold the Health and Family Welfare portfolio.
An official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Monday read, “With the approval of Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik allocates Health and Family Welfare department to Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari.”
It is important to note that Naba Kishore Das died on Sunday evening after being shot by Gopal Das, an assistant sub-inspector of police, while visiting his home constituency in Jharsuguda. On Monday, the mortal remains of Naba Kishore Das were transported to his ancestral village, where the final rituals would be performed with state honors. The state of Odisha has also declared three days of mourning.
