Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged farmers on Thursday to use new farm machinery and technology in their farming operations.
Patnaik said during the three-day ‘Krushi Odisha 2023′ conference here that his government is focusing on technology-led development in agriculture.
The Chief Minister emphasized technological intervention in the farm sector while also advising farmers to grow non-paddy crops.
While highlighting Odisha’s transition from being a food deficit state to a food surplus state, Patnaik said, “We have been supplying rice to the whole nation through public distribution system. Our Kalia scheme ensured income security for farmers while our government continues to focus on farm mechanisation to increase agricultural productivity.”
According to him, the government is also focusing on special missions for jackfruit, mushroom cultivation, and other crops in order to increase farmers’ income and ensure nutritional security.
Similarly, the Millet Mission has not only attracted national and international attention, but it has also helped increase the income of women’s self-help groups (SHGs), Patnaik explained.
Odisha has become self-sufficient in fisheries, meat, eggs, and milk production, according to State Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain.
