Lenovo, a Chinese electronics company, recently launched a new version of its Yoga 9i convertible laptop in India. It is one of the first laptops in the country to use a 13th Generation Intel Core processor – the Core i7-1360P. Apart from the latest Intel processor, there isn’t much new in the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2023.
Design
The Lenovo Yoga 9i is a premium convertible laptop that is thin and light. The laptop, which is made of aluminum, is not the thinnest (15.25mm) or lightest (1.4kg), but it is comparable to other 14-inch laptops in its class. It’s also not the most compact 14-inch laptop, but there’s a good reason for the extra bulk, aside from accommodating a well-spaced keyboard and large trackpad.
The laptop’s overall design is simple but not boring. The CNC milled aluminum top oozes luxury, with Yoga engraving on the top-right side and Lenovo engraving on the bottom-left side. The laptop has a matte finish, including the keyboard, but the sides and hinge have a glossy finish to enhance the overall design language. Speaking of hinge, it accommodates the speakers and tweeters and has holes on the front and back for the sound to find its way out.
Display and audio
The Lenovo Yoga 9i is equipped with a 14-inch 4K OLED touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. In comparison to the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, the tall aspect ratio has more vertical space for more content to appear on the screen. The screen has a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, making it suitable for jobs that require color accurate displays. The display is also DisplayHDR 500 certified and supports the Dolby Vision high dynamic range format. The 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, DisplayHDR 500 certification, and Dolby Vision support are all pro-grade features aimed at creators and professionals. These also contribute to a better multimedia experience. Not to mention the fact that it is a two-in-one laptop with a screen that extends all the way back. It essentially means you can use it as a tablet or in a tent mode as a standing display to watch multimedia content. On top, there is support for digital inking with the Lenovo Precision Pen that comes as standard accessory.
The audio performance elevates the experience. The laptop has dual stereo speakers with 3W output each, as well as two 2W tweeters and two 3W woofers. The speakers and tweeters are integrated into the hinge and face forward, while the woofers are placed on each side of the chassis to create a large soundstage. The entire system is powered by Dolby Atmos, with audio by Bowers & Wilkins. These are carried over from the previous generation model, but there is no reason to complain because the audio performance is excellent and among the best available in laptops.
Performance
The Lenovo Yoga 9i is powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core processor – Core i7-1360P – and includes integrated Iris Xe graphics, 16GB LPDDR5-5200MHz (soldered), and a 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD. These are excellent specifications for a thin-and-light laptop, and the performance reflects this. The laptop boots quickly thanks to an IR-powered front camera and fingerprint scanner, which enable biometric login via Windows Hello. Daily tasks like web browsing, video conferencing, data transfers, and so on put no strain on the laptop’s performance, and it stays cool throughout. Power-intensive tasks like photo editing, video encoding, multimedia editing, and so on cause the fans to spin at full speed, but performance throttling occurs only after long sessions. Having said that, the laptop is capable of handling heavy workloads but it is not designed for it.
Ports, battery, and charging
The Lenovo Yoga 9i has a 75Wh battery that is sufficient for a day of mixed use. The supplied 100W USB-C charger charges the device quickly. There are 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2, 1 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0, and DisplayPort 1.4 support), 1 x headphone / microphone combo jack (3.5mm), and 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports (support data transfer and Power Delivery).
Verdict
The Lenovo Yoga 9i, priced at Rs 174,990, is an ideal two-in-one laptop with a stunning design, dazzling touchscreen, impressive audio, quick performance, and stellar on-battery time. If not the best, it is one of the best laptops for people on the go in the thin-and-light category.
