The Odisha Assembly’s Budget Session began on a stormy note on Tuesday, with Opposition members protesting.
Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal’s address kicked off the session at 11:00 a.m. However, as soon as the Governor began his address to the House Congress, MLAs rushed to the podium and raised a ruckus in protest of the murder of Health Minister Naba Das and the alleged deterioration of the state’s law and order situation.
BJP MLAs, on the other hand, boycotted the Governor’s address and staged a dharna at the House’s entrance.
In his address, the Governor emphasized the success of state government programs such as the Biju Swatshya Kalyan Yojana, the Hockey Men’s World Cup, and other welfare initiatives.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, BJP MLA Jaynarayan Mishra, and Congress leader Narasimha Mishra paid tribute to Naba Kisore Das and other departed House leaders.
After that, the House was adjourned for the day.
The session will be divided into two parts. The first phase will take place from February 21 to March 1st, and the second will take place from March 10 to April 6.
Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will present the Budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 on February 24, and a Budget discussion will take place on February 27, 28, and March 1. On March 9, 10, 11, and 12, various Standing Committees will present their reports.
The appropriation of the Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2023-24 will take place on March 31.
