Meta has introduced new “creative expression” features for Facebook creators, including the ability to create Reels of up to 90 seconds in length, which were previously limited to only 60 seconds.
The announcement was made on Facebook by the company’s “Meta for Creators” account on Friday.
Creators can now easily create “Ready-made” Reels from their “Memories,” just like on Instagram.
In addition, the company introduced a new “Grooves” feature that automatically aligns and syncs the motion in the user’s video to the beat of the song.
Users can easily create Reels with trending templates using the new “Templates” tool.
Last month, Meta had announced that it was updating Facebook’s “Why am I seeing this ad?” tool, to provide more transparency about how it uses machine learning models to deliver advertisements to users.
The company said that the tool will explain “how your activity both on and off our technologies may inform the machine learning models we use to shape and deliver the ads you see.”
Reels are the social media company’s fastest-growing format, with reshares of Reels more than doubling on Facebook and Instagram in the last six months. Over the last year, reel plays on Facebook and Instagram have more than doubled.
In February 2022, the company launched reels for iOS and Android in more than 150 countries around the world. It also provided ways for creators to earn money, new creative tools, and additional locations to watch and create Facebook Reels. This was in response to the growing popularity of TikTok, a short-form video hosting app that provides hosting for videos ranging from three seconds to ten minutes.
