Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about the latest developments in bilateral economic cooperation.
The two sides discussed economic cooperation and ways to expand it, particularly in the field of international transportation, according to Xinhua, citing the Iranian President’s office website.
According to Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian President’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, the two leaders also discussed regional transportation development initiatives.
In a tweet, Jamshidi explained that Eurasian integration is the second phase of Raisi’s neighborhood policy, which also includes the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China and the International North-South Transport Corridor with Russia.
He went on to say that the goal is to strengthen Iran’s geoeconomic role.
