The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center here has forecast moderate-to-heavy rainfall in many parts of Odisha beginning Thursday due to new western disturbances. The effects of the western disturbances are expected to last until March 26.
According to the IMD, another western disturbance is possible in India on March 23. Rainfall will be accompanied by hailstorms, thunderstorms, and gusty surface wind beginning on March 23.
The effect will reach Odisha by March 25, and several parts of the state will experience moderate rainfall on that day. The coastal regions of Odisha are expected to receive heavy rain the next day. Rain, lightning, and thundershowers are expected in some areas of the state.
During the last few days, western disturbances brought rain and hailstorms to Odisha. However, the effect of the western disturbance has diminished since Wednesday, resulting in a 2°C to 3°C increase in day temperature.
Meanwhile, the IMD’s forecast of another western disturbance has worried the state’s farmers. They recently suffered massive crop losses due to unseasonal rain and hailstorms. Farmers are concerned that another western disturbance will completely devastate them.
