Twitter CEO Elon Musk has changed the microsocial media platform’s classic blue bird logo to the “doge” meme in a significant move.
The Shiba Inu dog meme, which is also the logo of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, has taken the place of Twitter’s blue bird. However, the change to Doge is only visible on Twitter’s web version, not the Twitter app.
Musk confirmed the name change from Blue Bird to Doge on Twitter. The CEO of Twitter first tweeted a meme of a police officer inspecting a document, which Doge claims is an old photograph.
Musk also posted a screenshot of a conversation he had with a Twitter user prior to taking over the company, with the caption “as promised.” During the conversation, Musk asks if a new platform is needed, to which the user suggests that Musk instead buy Twitter and replace the blue bird logo with a Doge.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Dogecoin’s value increased by nearly 30% after Twitter changed its home page logo to the dog meme.
Since taking over the social media behemoth last October, Musk has implemented numerous changes. Twitter also announced that beginning April 1, the company will discontinue its old verified program, which will require users to pay $8 per month for the coveted blue checkmarks.
