Shelter for the Urban Homeless has been established across the state to ensure that no needy person is left on the street.
In a recent occasion, it was discovered that some people are still sleeping on the footpath in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) region, which was really disappointing. All ULBs have been directed to activate their patrolling teams that have been constituted for this purpose.
On Sunday, the CMC SUH team, State SUH team, and NGO OPUS working in this field assembled for an emergency meeting. The meeting was presided over by Sarada Prasad Panda, Joint Secretary, H&UD, and Director, State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), and was held in SUDA’s conference hall. The matter has been thoroughly discussed, and instructions have been provided to all ULBs to activate their patrolling team, OPUS, engage the community partners i.e. Mission Shakti SHGs and make sure they are linked to the nearest SUH.
The CMC Cuttack team was ordered to develop an action plan for addressing this critical issue in the city by June 21, 2023. They should begin taking action on Sunday. The costs would be borne by the state government.
Swetapadma Satpathy, Deputy Commissioner, CMC, and her team, the State SUH Team, and NGOs working in collaboration with the Urban Development department attended the conference and agreed to “do everything possible to care for every shelterless person in the state’s ULB areas.”
