Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 is still doing well at the box office. The box office success of the sequel to the 2001 war film has been unstoppable. Following a modest drop over the week, Gadar 2 saw a significant increase on Saturday, earning Rs 13.75 crores, bringing the 16-day total to Rs 439.95 crores. The Anil Sharma-directed picture has now surpassed KGF 2 Hindi’s collection (Rs 435 crore) to become the third-highest grossing film in Hindi history.
Sharing the latest box office figures, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “CROSSES ‘KGF 2’, NEXT ‘BAAHUBALI 2’… After crossing *lifetime biz* of #Dangal, #Gadar2 overtakes #KGF2 #Hindi… #Gadar2 is now THIRD HIGHEST GROSSING #Hindi film in #India… Continues to smash #BO records at mass sectors… [Week 3] Fri 7.10 cr, Sat 13.75 cr. Total: ₹ 439.95 cr. #India biz.”
Only Pathaan (Rs 543 crores net) and Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion (Rs 511 crores net) have surpassed the Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel flick. Gadar 2 is expected to gross more above Rs 500 crore in its fourth week, although it is unlikely to outperform its two predecessors. Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is going to be released on September 7, which could be its biggest hindrance.
Gadar 2 collection
Returning to the box office, Gadar 2 earned Rs 284.63 crore in week 1 and Rs 134.47 crore in week 2. Even after that, it maintained more than 40% occupancy in the Hindi market as the third weekend approached. Night shows remained the most popular, followed by evening, day, and morning programmes.
On August 11, Gadar 2 was released alongside Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2. The film grossed Rs 40 crore on its first day, but reached a peak of Rs 55 crore on Independence Day. Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, Manish Wadhwa, and Gaurav Chopra also appear.
While fans could not stop praising the film, critics gave it mostly positive reviews.
