Dream Girl 2 by Ayushmann Khurrana had a fantastic start at the box office, earning Rs 10.69 crore on its first day. The weekend was a success for the picture, as it made Rs 14.02 crore on Saturday and Rs 16 crore on Sunday. However, collections dropped dramatically on day four, the crucial first Monday test.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the much-anticipated sequel to 2019’s Dream Girl, Dream Girl 2, earned roughly Rs 5.42 crore on Monday. The film’s overall Hindi occupancy rate was 17.72%. The film’s total collection in three days is Rs 46.31 crore. It may show some rise this week, particularly with the Raksha Bandhan holiday in north India around the corner.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared, “#DreamGirl2 posts a HEALTHY TOTAL on the make-or-break Mon [reduced ticket rates on weekdays]… Major centres continue to drive its biz… Should cross the HALF-CENTURY mark today [Tue; Day 5]… Fri 10.69 cr, Sat 14.02 cr, Sun 16 cr, Mon 5.42 cr. Total: ₹ 46.13 cr. #India biz. As mentioned earlier, the #RakshaBandhan holiday on Wed [30 Aug 2023] should witness a spike in biz. #Boxoffice”.
Ayushmann’s last four films, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek, Doctor G, and An Action Hero, all bombed at the box office, therefore Dream Girl 2’s success was critical for the National Award-winning actor. The first installment, which was released in 2019, was the highest-earning film in Ayushmann Khurrana’s career, grossing Rs 142.26 crore during its four-year theatrical run. However, with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan releasing on September 7, it appears unlikely that Dream Girl 2 would surpass Dream Girl.
In addition to Ayushmann, the film stars Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Manoj Joshi, and Annu Kapoor. Dream Girl 2 is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, who directed the prequel in his directorial debut and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor under their banner Balaji Motion Pictures.
