The formation of a new cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rain to various parts of Odisha beginning September 2 and increasing in intensity beginning September 4, according to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here in its midday bulletin on Thursday.
According to the weather service, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the majority of the state’s districts. Yellow rain warnings have been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Baleshwar, Nabrangpur, Kalahandi, and Bolangir districts, which may receive 70 to 110 mm of rain. Thunder and lightning are possible in coastal, southern, and inland Odisha, accompanied with heavy rain.
South Odisha, including the coast, has been affected by the weak monsoon. The temperature has been 4°C to 5°C above normal for the last five days.
