At the box office, it’s essentially Shah Rukh Khan vs. Shah Rukh Khan. Jawan, the superstar’s next film, has already set the box office on fire with extraordinary pre-ticket sales numbers for the September 7 release. The advance booking for the film opened on Friday, and the numbers are unprecedented.
According to trade expert Taran Adarsh, the three national multiplexes (PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis) sold over two lakh tickets as of Sunday 12 p.m. Jawan will eventually attempt to break Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan’s national chain ticket sales record, which stands at 5,56,000 for any Bollywood film on day one advance booking.

Jawan has already sold 4, 26, 171 tickets.
Jawan’s ticket sales are likewise impressive, especially given that its full showing has yet to begin. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jawan has sold a total of 4, 26, 171 tickets across all languages, national multiplexes, and other locations, bringing its gross earnings to Rs 13.17 crore.
Despite only 55% of the shows opening, Jawan has delivered impressive results, with expectations of a massive Rs 40 crore from advance bookings, as per Sacnilk. Pathaan has received Rs 32 crore in advance bookings and had an all-India opening of Rs 57 crore.
Expectations are that Jawan will break box office records, easily surpassing Pathaan’s Hindi opening day record of Rs 55 crore. According to trade estimates, the picture is already laying the groundwork for a record-breaking opening of Rs 60 crore or more–an unprecedented sum for any Indian film.
Jawan is not only crushing pre-sales in the native market, but also breaking records internationally. According to trade tracker Nishit Shaw, Jawan could be the first Bollywood film to gross more than $5 million on a working Thursday (Sep 7), without the benefit of a vacation.
In a Bollywood Hungama report, Kamal Gianchandani, President, MAI, CEO of PVR Pictures Ltd and Chief Business Planning & Strategy of PVR Ltd, said the advance numbers of Jawan are “excellent.”
“It’s currently tracking higher than Pathaan. I think it’s well poised for a humongous opening. The first day can be historic.” Shashank Raizada of Delite Cinemas, New Delhi told the portal that the numbers are “unprecedented” and after a long time, exhibitors are witnessing advance bookings of this kind. “The advance is higher than that of Gadar 2 and Pathaan. This is very good news for the industry,” he was quoted as saying.
Shah Rukh, in Jawan, plays father and son in a first-time partnership with Atlee, celebrated for Tamil hits starring Vijay.
Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra, and Sunil Grover are among the cast members. Deepika Padukone makes a brief appearance. Red Chillies Entertainment produced Jawan, with Atlee as the writer and director, while Sumit Arora supplied the Hindi dialogues.
