ISRO announced on Sunday that it successfully completed the first earthbound manoeuvre of the country’s first solar mission, Aditya L1, from ISTRAC here.
The space agency also stated that the spacecraft is in good working order.
The next maneuver is scheduled on September 5, 2023, at approximately 03:00 Hrs. IST “Aditya-L1 Mission: The satellite is in good health and is functioning normally.” The first Earth-bound maneuvre (EBN#1) is successfully completed from ISTRAC in Bengaluru. The new orbit measures 245km x 22459 km in size. “The next maneuvre (EBN#2) is scheduled for September 5, 2023, around 03:00 Hrs. IST,” ISRO wrote in a statement on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
Aditya L1 was launched on Saturday from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
The mission’s goal is to research the sun’s outer atmosphere by locating India’s first solar observatory near the Sun-Earth L1 point.
The spacecraft would be stationed at Lagrange point 1 (L1).
After the solar panels were installed, the spacecraft began to generate power.
According to ISRO, Aditya-L1 will stay 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth, pointing toward the Sun, which is around 1% of the Earth-Sun distance. It will not land on the Sun or go any closer to it.
