At a simple ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan , Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, Raghubar Das was sworn in as the 26th governor of Odisha since his election. Das was sworn in by Odisha Chief Justice Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi.
Das succeeds Prof Ganeshi Lal as the Governor of Odisha. On October 18, 2023, President Draupadi Murmu named him the Governor of Odisha.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, several members of the Odisha Council of Ministers, and dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Raghubar Das, Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2014 to 2019, began his political career with the Janata Party in 1997 and later joined the BJP in 1984. He won the Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency for five consecutive terms from 1989 to 2014.
Das held a number of positions in the Jharkhand government before to being appointed Chief Minister, including Deputy Chief Minister of the state. He served as Jharkhand’s first and only non-tribal chief minister.
Das continues to reside in the quarters provided by Tata Steel, where he was employed in Jamshedpur.
Das prayed at the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar earlier in the day. “I have prayed for the well-being and prosperity of the people of Odisha,” he remarked, addressing the media there.
On Tuesday morning, Das also examined a Guard of Honour at the Raj Bhawar.
