The deep depression over the south-west Bay of Bengal grew into cyclonic storm “MICHAUNG” today, according to the India Meteorological Department.
During the previous 06 hours, it moved northwestward at a speed of 5 km/h, intensified into a Cyclonic Storm “MICHAUNG” (pronounced MIGJAUM), and was centered on Sunday.
The phenomenon is located approximately 300 kilometers east-southeast of Puducherry, 310 kilometers southeast of Chennai, 440 kilometers southeast of Nellore, 550 kilometers south-southeast of Bapatla, and 550 kilometers south-southeast of Machilipatnam.
It is expected to proceed northwestwards, intensify more, and reach the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the coastlines of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu on December 4.
Following that, it would continue roughly northwards, practically parallel and close to the south Andhra Pradesh coast, and cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam as a Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph during the forenoon of December 5.
