According to authorities, at least eight people have perished in Tamil Nadu as a result of the strong cyclonic storm Michaung, which has also caused floods of arterial roads and subways in Chennai and other major towns in the state.
According to the authorities, families have been evacuated from the impacted districts, and pregnant women, children, and the elderly have been saved from the danger zones.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin reviewed the cyclone-stricken areas on Tuesday morning, monitoring rescue activities and facilities provided to the afflicted people.
He stated that the death toll has been greatly decreased as a result of preventative measures, methodical improvements, and complete structural preparations.
He also visited a relief camp set up in Kannappar Thidal, Chennai.
Rescue and relief works are being carried out on a war footing.
Chennai was spared extensive damage due to the stormwater drain projects implemented by the DMK government.
Despite heavy rain, the damages are less compared to previous times, according to Stalin.
Approximately 5,000 workers from different parts of Tamil Nadu have been deployed to Chennai to carry out relief work.
There are currently at least 162 aid facilities operational across the state, with 43 of them in Chennai.
Food is provided by the state capital’s 20 functioning kitchens.
Meanwhile, flight services at Chennai airport have resumed after being suspended on Monday due to the cyclone’s impact.
Airport personnel, on the other hand, have been instructed to remain watchful.
