Today’s Stock Market News | Sensex, Nifty, and Share Prices Highlights: The major equity indices finished Friday’s trading session in the green. The NSE Nifty 50 rose 94.35 points, or 0.44%, to 21,349.40, while the BSE Sensex rose 241.86 points, or 0.34%, to 71,106.96. The broader indices finished in positive territory, with Smallcap and Largecap stocks leading the way. The Bank Nifty index fell 348.30 points, or 0.73%, to 47,491.85. IT and metal companies soared, while banks and financial services sectors underperformed. The top gainers on the NSE Nifty 50 were Wipro, HCL Technologies, Bajaj Auto, Hindalco Industries, and Tata Motors, while the laggards were Grasim Industries, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, State Bank of India, and ICICI Bank. The Indian Volatility Index (India VIX) closed down by 0.36 %.
LIC’s share price gained over 7% to reach a new 52-week high of Rs 820.05 in morning trade on the BSE on December 22. This notable jump followed the company’s announcement of a one-time exemption granted by the government to achieve a minimum public shareholding (MPS) of 25%.
Shares in the Asia-Pacific region are trading in the positive territory on Friday morning. The Asia Dow is trading up by 0.38%, Japan’s Nikkei 225 is green, up 0.31%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index is trading up 0.04% and the benchmark Chinese index Shanghai Composite is trading higher by 0.57%.
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the value of the dollar against a basket of six foreign currencies, traded down by 0.09% at 101.75.
U.S. stocks bounced higher after Thursday data signalled the economy was headed in the right direction, cementing bets for deeper interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve, reported Bloomberg. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 185.93 points or 1.26% at 14,963.87. The S&P 500 jumped 48.40 points or 1.03% at 4,746.75, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 322.35 points or 0.87% to 37,404.35.
