In India, the highest opening of the year so far has been Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which grossed Rs 75 crore nett on its first day, but Salaar has already surpassed that. Prabhas made a huge comeback with Salaar. His most recent film, the big-budget period drama Adipurush, grossed Rs 86.75 crore nett in India. Radhe Shyam, in which he co-starred with Pooja Hegde, debuted at Rs 43.10 crore nett. Saaho had a solid start in 2019, earning Rs 89 crore nett. However, the first-week box office figures for all three films fell.
This is hardly the finest box office opening for director Prashanth Neel, who previously helmed the KGF films. KGF 2 grossed over Rs 1000 crore worldwide after opening with Rs 116 crore nett in India.
Salaar also has key performances by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu. Vijay Kiragandur produced the film, which will be released in two parts: Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, Shouryaanga Parvam: Part 2.
Salaar competed at the box office with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki. The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, grossed Rs 30 crores on its first day.
