The number of active cases in Odisha has increased to 18 in just over a week with the identification of five new cases in the last 24 hours. Every patient is stable and receiving treatment while being isolated at home.
Speaking on the rapid increase in the number of COVID cases in the state, Odisha Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra said that the number of tests has increased in the state during the last week. “There is nothing to worry about the spread of JN.1 sub-variant of COVID in the state as the government is keeping a close watch on the situation. Besides, the symptoms of the JN.1 sub-variant are mild and similar to those of common flu,” he said.
“However, if anyone feels that their symptoms are akin to those of COVID, they should immediately go for tests.”
At the same time, Dr Mishra advised people, especially those with comorbidities, to wear masks and avoid going to crowded places.
Meanwhile, 4,390 new active COVID cases were reported from across the country during the last 24 hours, and five patients succumbed to the viral infection. The deaths were reported from Bihar (1), Karnataka (1), and Kerala (1).
