PM Modi Bhutan Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two days state visit to Bhutan. During his visit, he will attend various programmes aimed at enhancing India-Bhutan bilateral partnership. Taking to X(formerly Twitter) on Friday, PM Modi shared a picture of his departure to Bhutan and captioned the post as: “On the way to Bhutan, where I will be attending various programmes aimed at further cementing the India-Bhutan partnership. I look forward to talks with Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Prime Minister @tsheringtobgay”.
Prime Minister was warmly received by H.E. Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan at Paro airport and accorded ceremonial welcome.
During the visit, Prime Minister will receive audience with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan. Prime Minister will also hold talks with the Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay.
Prime Minister will inaugurate the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu, a state-of-the-art hospital, built with the assistance of the Government of India in Thimphu.
Earlier, due to adverse weather conditions, PM Modi’s departure to Bhutan was rescheduled.
Recently, PM of Bhutan had also visited India.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Indai-Bhutan shares an enduring partnership, rooted in “mutual trust, understanding, and goodwill”. According to MEA, PM Modi’s visit will give both parties a chance to discuss and debate how to deepen and broaden their partnership for the good of the people, as well as to share opinions on important bilateral and regional issues.
Between 14-18 March, Togbay also visited India. Prime Minister Modi announced during the Bhutanese PM’s visit that India will provide more support for Bhutan’s 13th five-year plan. This help would include looking at a request for an economic stimulus program and directing development aid toward the development of infrastructure and connectivity.
India has provided aid worth ₹5,000 crore for the 12th plan to Bhutan.
