On Tuesday, a red alert was issued for a severe heatwave in numerous districts of Odisha, including the state capital, Bhubaneswar.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre here, the mercury touched 40°C in at least six spots in Odisha at 11.30 a.m. today. While Balasore had the highest temperature in the state at 44.1°C, Bhubaneswar came a close second at 43.6°.
The temperatures recorded at 11 places in the state at 11.30 am on Tuesday are:

- Keonjhar: 41.4°C
- Chandbali: 41.2°C
- Rourkela: 40.4°C
- Hirakud: 39.9°C
- Sambalpur: 39.8°C
- Puri: 34.4°C
- Paradip: 33.6°C
- Gopalpur: 33.6°C
