The Southwest Monsoon has reached Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India said the IMD in an X (formerly Twitter) post on Thursday.
According to the information of the official X handle of the India Meteorological Department, “Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India today (that is on) the 30th May, 2024.”
The Southwest Monsoon has arrived in Kerala and has spread throughout most of Northeast India as of today, May 30, 2024. This will provide welcome reprieve from the searing heat as the monsoon hits Kerala today. A strong deluge is forecast as the monsoon approaches the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipated above-average monsoon precipitation for the country this year in its Updated Long Range prognosis Outlook on Monday, reiterating its April prognosis of a healthy monsoon. According to the IMD, the monsoon will most likely arrive in Kerala by today.
“Quantitatively, the southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the country as a whole is likely to be 106 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA) with a model error of 4 per cent. Thus above normal rainfall is most likely over the country as a whole during the monsoon season from June to September 2024,” IMD said.
On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that temperatures in India’s capital city of Delhi reached a record high of 52.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
