The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre has projected that heavy rain will fall in Odisha as a result of low pressure over the Northwest Bay of Bengal. The weather authority has also issued an orange warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in five areas.
According to a recent dispatch from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, a low pressure system remains over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent territories of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Because of the effect, heavy rain is expected to continue in Odisha for the next three to five days.
The weathermen have issued an orange warning for four districts in the state: Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak, for heavy to very high rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm). Furthermore, , yellow warning for heavy rain (7 cm to 11 cm) has been issued to districts including Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Samblapur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh and Sonepur.
Similarly, a yellow alert has been issued for Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Nuapada for tomorrow. On August 19th, severe rain is expected to hit Sundergarh, Jhasuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Sambalpur.
Due to severe to extremely heavy rain throughout the state, the weather department has proposed some potential impacts and actions. They are:
- Waterlogging is likely in low-lying regions and along the underpass road.
- Poor visibility amid heavy rains and traffic congestion in cities. Some damage to the Kutchha Road, with the threat of the wall collapsing on vulnerable Kutchha dwellings.
- Some damage to vegetables and horticulture crops is probable.
- Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha homes. Before leaving for your trip, consider following the traffic congestion advisory.
- Arrangement for drainage of surplus water from the nursery bed, preparations for sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done
