Even as a wet spell continues to saturate several regions of Odisha, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast significant rainfall in the state, with weather conditions expected to persist for two more days.
The IMD has issued a red warning for severe to very heavy rains in Mayurbhanj, a yellow alert for 11 Odisha districts, and an orange warning for Keonjhar, Balasore, and Sundargarh. The weather service issued an advisory on Monday warning of flash floods and landslides owing to heavy rain in several places, advising people to stay vigilant. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has also notified the District Collectors of the affected areas to take precautionary measures to meet any eventuality.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Jalaka River reached dangerous levels on Sunday night. Flooding poses a concern to those who live along the river’s banks. Heavy rain has fallen on Rasagobindpur, Morada, Shulwanpada, and Chitada in the upper catchment area and Jalaka river basin over the last two days.
Dhamra and Paradip ports on the north coast have been assigned Danger Code 3.
The IMD predicts that the weather will change beginning Wednesday, with the intensity of the rains decreasing.
