The Commonwealth of Dominica will present Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, in recognition of his efforts to Dominica during the Covid-19 outbreak and commitment to improving India-Dominica relations.
Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, will deliver the award at the India-CARICOM Summit, which will take place in Georgetown, Guyana, from November 19 to 21, 2024.
In February 2021, India gave Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, a significant donation that enabled Dominica to aid neighboring Caribbean countries.
This honour also recognizes India’s ongoing support in areas like as healthcare, education, and information technology under PM Modi’s leadership, as well as his dedication to global climate resilience and sustainable development.
According to Prime Minister Skerrit, the honor symbolizes Dominica’s thanks for Prime Minister Modi’s support with the country and the region.
“Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, particularly during our time of need amid a global health crisis. It is an honour to present him with Dominica’s highest national accolade as a symbol of our gratitude for his support and as a reflection of the strong ties between our countries. We look forward to building on this partnership and advancing our shared vision of progress and resilience,” statement from Dominica’s Office of the Prime Minister said.
The statement further stated that when accepting the prize, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts in addressing global concerns such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with Dominica and the Caribbean region on these critical issues.
Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit will attend the India-CARICOM summit. This meeting allows India and CARICOM member nations to discuss shared goals and seek new collaboration opportunities.
