Stock Market Highlights, Monday, November 18, 2024: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, closed Monday’s trading session in negative territory, dragged down by weak global indicators.
The BSE Sensex fell 241.30 points (0.31 percent) to close at 77,339.01, trading within a range of 76,965.06-77,886.97.
The NSE Nifty50 finished at 23,453, down 78.90 points (0.34 percent). The index ranged between 23,350.40 and 23,606.80.
29 of the 50 Nifty50 constituent stocks closed in the red, headed by TCS, Infosys, BPCL, Dr Reddy’s Labs, and Cipla, which lost up to 3.11 percent. Hindalco, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Nestle India, and Hindustan Unilever were among 21 equities that had increases of up to 3.79 percent.
The fear index, India VIX, which measures market volatility, ended up 2.65% at 15.17.
In broader markets, the Nifty Smallcap100 index lost 0.53% on Monday, while the Nifty Midcap100 closed flat.
Among sectoral indexes, Nifty IT fell 2.32 percent, led by Coforge, Persistent Systems, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, and LTTS. The Nifty Media, Pharma, CPSE, and Healthcare indices all closed in the red, with losses ranging up to 1.60 percent.
In contrast, the Nifty FMCG, Metal, Banking, Realty, Financial, and Consumer Durable indices rose up to 1.90 percent.
